Rudraksha - blessings of Lord Shiva

Rudraksha is the blessing of Lord Shiva. For thousands of years, mankind all over the world is getting immense advantage of wearing Rudraksha beads. Rudraksha is not just a bead, but rather it is a blessing of Lord Shiva which helps in attaining healthy mind, body and soul.

It is also crucial in attaining good health and gives relief from blood pressure, stress, anxiety, depression and other related diseases. Rudraksha is a Sanskrit word which is formed through combining two words namely "Rudra" meaning Lord Shiva and "Aksha" meaning eyes. Combining these two meanings, the term Rudraksha denote Lord Shiva eyes. Aksha denotes the third eye of Lord Shiva.

There is an ancient interesting story associated with origin of Rudraksha in Shiv Purana. Maa Parvati, the divine consort of Lord Shiva once asked him about the origin of Rudraksha. Lord Shiva told that he meditated for thousand years keeping his eyes closed and when he came out of the state of meditation, a few drops of tears fell on the ground, it took the form of the seeds, from these seeds the Rudraksha tree came into existence.

Another ancient story says that when Lord Shiva burnt demon Tripurasura, tears came out of his eyes which were converted into Rudraksha tree. Rudraksha are very beneficial in meditation which leads us to ultimate goal of gaining salvation in life. It is believed that the seed of Rudraksha contains the secrets of entire evolution of the cosmos within it. The sages have been wearing Rudraksha for centuries to cultivate mental, physical and health prowess to attain fearlessness on their spiritual path to enlightenment.

The Rudraksha bead has a lot of medicinal properties and is used in the cure for mental illness, blood pressure, small pox and chicken pox, poisons, cough, fever, breathlessness and fits.

Rudraksha is a rare gift of nature to mankind in the sense, that most beads come with a natural hole drilled in the centre, as if nature intended man to use the rudraksha bead to form a chain. Such rudraksha beads are considered especially auspicious. Rudraksha is often believed to symbolize the link between earth and heaven, between man and god. Hence Rudraksha is the object of veneration and also a source to reach the higher self.

Each seed also possesses from 1 to 38 vertical lines running down its surface, like the longitude lines on a globe. These lines are known as mukhi, or faces, and are natural formations of the seed. Seeds with one vertical line are known as Eka-mukhi (one facet), which are very rare; those with two lines are Dvi-mukhi (two facets), and so on. Each bead has different effects on the wearer, depending on the number of mukhi or faces it has. Each of the many types of Rudraksha Beads have a governing Deity and specific powers and properties.
