HAPPY DEVOTHANI/PRABODHINI EKADASHI - 22nd Nov 2015

22nd November 2015

HAPPY DEVOTHANI/PRABODHINI EKADASHI

Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha in Kartik month is celebrated as Devothani Ekadashi (Prabhodhini Ekadashi). In Hindu Mythology it is said that on this day, Lord Vishnu concludes his four months rest starting on the Ekadashi of Bhadra Pada. Auspicious functions including marriages are now allowed to take place in the society.

In this year, Devothani is being celebrated on 22nd November 2015. This fast is of special importance and it is said that fast on this day equals to the result of 1000 Ashwamedha Yagna. There is also a custom of performing Jagran and worshiping Lord Hari on this day which is considered very auspicious.

Dev Uthani Ekadashi is famous by various names among the devotees. Some of the famous names are – Prabodhini Ekadashi, Dev Uthani Ekadashi, Dev Utthana Ekadashi, Vishnu Prabodhini or Deothan. Also, this Ekadasi occurs in the Hindu month of Kartik, hence, it is also known as Kartiki Ekadashi.

A fast is observed on Prabodhini Ekadashi and the ritual marriage of the Tulsi plant is performed with god Vishnu, who is regarded as the husband of Tulsi. This ritual marriage is known as Tulsi Vivah and may be conducted on the next day of Prabodhini Ekadashi instead of Prabodhini Ekadashi itself.

Lord Krishna says that if a person fasts on Ekadashi, “I will burn up all his sins. Indeed this day is the most meritorious day for destroying all kinds of sins.” In the three worlds, there is no kind of fasting, which is even comparable to the Ekadashi fast. Even if one performs this fast without a proper attitude, he achieves the Lords Supreme Abode. Anyone who fasts on Ekadashi, with full devotion, the merit one receives cannot be compared to anything else in the three worlds.

IF YOU CANNOT FAST THEN ALSO THERE IS NO PROBLEM, TRY TO WORSHIP LORD HARI WITH FULL DEVOTION, LISTEN TO HIS BHAJANS, OFFER GHEE DEEPAK AND SAINTED INCENSE TO HIM ALONG WITH ANY SWEET. GOD BLESS YOU
